The 2023 Hyundai Palisade is an excellent option if you’re in the market for an upscale and comfortable family SUV. For 2023, Hyundai made minor changes to the exterior design of the Palisade, giving it a more squared-off appearance and updated wheel designs. The Hyundai has also gained several features throughout the trims. The Palisade lineup has also expanded with the introduction of the new XRT trim which offers XRT-exclusive equipment. The 2023 Hyundai Palisade is one of the best value options in the mid-size SUV class and offers a high-class interior with an abundance of space. The interior of the 2023 Palisade is one of the nicest in the segment, as it combines an attractive and modern design, high-quality build materials, and a good fit and finish. The Palisade also comes with a host of standard features that make the SUV a fantastic value option in the class. However, while many connectivity and technology features are standard across the range, the top models get the more luxurious features such as a panoramic sunroof, in-dash navigation, and leather seats. Hyundai also offers a Premium Package option, on the mid-trim SEL model, that includes many of the desirable features available on the higher-trim models, while keeping the sticker price of the SUV in a slightly lower range.
The Hyundai Palisade also offers a smooth and comfortable ride. The suspension of the SUV can handle most road imperfections with ease and does a good job of minimizing the road noise transmitted into the cabin. However, a significant amount of wind noise is transmitted through the doors and into the cabin at highway speeds. The Palisade also handles well and is bolstered by quick and well-weighted steering. The Palisade handles with confidence in most situations but, as expected from an SUV, it does display some minimal body lean when cornering. Additionally, when properly equipped, the Palisade can tow up to 5,000 pounds. All Palisade trims also come standard with towing equipment, such as sway control, trailer pre-wiring, and a transmission cooler. The Palisade provides seating for eight passengers on the SE and SEL trims, while the Limited & Calligraphy trims offer second-row captain’s chairs which reduce the passenger capacity to seven. The Palisade is family-hauling oriented and truly shines when it comes to that aspect. The cargo space provided is an enormous 86 cubic feet with all seats folded. However, with all the seats in use the cargo space diminishes to a modest 18 cubic feet. With a high-class cabin, a smooth ride, and plentiful space, it’s easy to see why the Palisade is one of the best-selling Hyundais offered.
The 2023 Hyundai Palisade is powered by a 3.8-liter V6 engine. The 3.8-liter V6 produces 291 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque and provides adequate acceleration for a vehicle of this size. The V6 is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that provides smooth and accurate shifting. However, the gearbox has some noticeable shuffling of gear rations when driving up steep hills. The Palisade also comes with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, but the gearbox offers sufficiently smooth shifts on its own. The Palisade is offered with front-wheel-drive (FWD) as standard on all trims, with all-wheel-drive (AWD) available as an added option. The EPA estimates that FWD Palisades offers an estimated fuel efficiency of 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. Equipping AWD slightly reduces the fuel economy to 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. The fuel efficiency ratings are about average for the class. However, aside from the mediocre gas mileage, there aren’t many negatives to be found in this Hyundai.
